The search giant is tailoring its results to fit better on a mobile screen, and it will also include relevant data from Google News, Google Images, and other Web properties.
Google wants to make it easier for mobile users to access its search engine, and it has optimized its search results for a variety of different handsets and languages.
The company has already tailored search results for iPhones or Android-powered devices to load faster and fit better on the screen. The search giant is now bringing that format to various handsets in over 60 countries and 38 languages.
"Whether you have a smartphone or a feature phone, if you have mobile Internet access you can get the new mobile-optimized Google Search results pages on your phone just about anywhere in the world," Google wrote on its mobile blog. "Just go to Google.com in your browser and do a search."
The format will be better suited for a small screen, and the results will blend in relevant data from Google News, Google Images, Product Search, and other Google properties. Additionally, Google said it is tailoring the results to be relevant for a phone. For example, if a user is searching for local restaurants, the phone number of those places would appear prominently in the results.
The move is another sign that Google sees the mobile space as a valuable one, and CEO Eric Schmidt has said he believes mobile advertising will one day generate more revenue than advertising on the normal Web.
A report from the Kelsey Group said the market for mobile search ads will balloon from $20 million in 2008 to $1.3 billion by 2013. In order to capitalize on this, Google has brought its lucrative AdSense program to the mobile Web, and it recently enabled mobile developers to use it in mobile applications.
