As most solution providers and systems integrators know, business intelligence (BI) systems can often become bogged down by voluminous data and complex reporting. For four years, HyperRoll has addressed that problem with data aggregation software that can substantially boost the speed with which BI applications query and retrieve information. On Tuesday the company is expected to unveil a new version that supports relational data warehouses and reporting tools--complementing its traditional OLAP analytic environments--and an order-of-magnitude speed improvement.

To be introduced in Boston at The Data Warehousing Institute (TDWI) Spring Conference, HyperRoll 4.0 will boast a new compression algorithm that can prune extremely large queries to manageable lengths.

"Where a query might once have taken eight hours to return on a very large database, HyperRoll 4.0 can bring results back in five minutes," said Rich Ghiossi, vice president of marketing at the Mountain View, Calif., company. "We are revolutionizing the way BI can be used in a way that's very channel-friendly and very partner-friendly." Ghiossi said HyperRoll has nearly 30 partners, including systems integrators, consulting partners, VARs and OEMs.

In addition, the latest version now supports queries and reports conducted within a Business Objects/Oracle RDBS environment. Ghiossi said HyperRoll will support additional combinations throughout the rest of the year.

"Every environment is a little different," said Ghiossi. "Many times people have high expectations for these systems, but they don't see the benefits because the reports take so long--either because the query is complex or because the reports are being generated for a large population of users."

Ghiossi said HyperRoll works with data marts and warehouses. It does not aggregate data from multiple sources. Initial implementations typically start at $125,000. The software update is slated for May 15 release.
