Iatric Systems has introduced for hospitals a patient portal that provides online access to personal health information and the ability to pay bills.

PtAccess is available to hospitals that have implemented electronic health records. The Web-based portal can provide patients with discharge instructions, visit history, clinical results, provider contract information, and medication order history.

Patients can also input information useful to healthcare providers, such as home medication inventory, surgical and medical history, and allergies. Patients can also view and pay hospital bills.

To assure security, hospital case managers provide patients upon discharge, with the portal URL and a time-sensitive security code. The patient can log on to the site later and request access to his personal health records using a multi-step authentication process.

PtAccess also includes integration with Google Health and Microsoft HealthVault, enabling patients to manage health records from multiple providers. The Google and Microsoft services enable users to organize their health information online by gathering medical records from doctors, hospitals, and pharmacies that have partnered with the companies. Information may be shared withfamily members, doctors, and caregivers.

Google this week announced new partnerships at the Health Information and Management Systems Society conference, including Iatric Systems, and Citizen Memorial Healthcare. Iatric has agreed to facilitate Google Health integrations for hospitals and heathcare systems.

In addition, Surescripts, an electronic prescription service, agreed to accelerate the availability of prescription drug history to Google Health users. Surescripts' network connects doctors to the major and independent pharmacy chains in the U.S., health insurance plans and pharmacy benefits managers.
