Oracle this week acquired Dutch software vendor Moniforce in a move that's expected to add consideration of the end user's experience in Oracle's application performance management tools. Financial details were not disclosed.

Moniforce's software monitors network traffic to measure the performance and availability of Web applications from the perspective of the end user. Oracle said Moniforce's technology would be a valuable addition to the business software maker's Enterprise Manager software, which provides a more extensive view of application performance throughout the enterprise

"The addition of Moniforce significantly broadens the scope of business exceptions addressed by Oracle Enterprise Manager, allowing administrators to proactively monitor and analyze the application experience from a user's standpoint," Chuck Rozwat, executive VP of Oracle product development, said in a statement released Thursday

Of particular interest to Oracle is Moniforce's UXinsight module. Built on network protocol analysis technology, the software can measure performance without slowing down the monitored application or the network, according to Oracle. UXinsight can also uncover errors in logic in custom and packaged applications on non-Oracle and Oracle infrastructures.

"The Moniforce acquisition significantly broadens the scope of business exceptions addressed by Oracle Enterprise Manager," Oracle said in a posting of frequently asked questions about the acquisition. Oracle plans to offer UXinsight as a standalone product.

Moniforce customers include KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and food retailer Ahold. The company's targeted industries include financial, retail and government. Oracle said it plans to hire Moniforce managers and employees.

Moniforce customers can expect from the acquisition more product innovation, access to complementary application diagnostics capabilities, and better service and support, Oracle said.

Companies that are also in the application permanence management business include Corvil, Quest Software and OpNet. Hewlett-Packard jumped in last year with the acquisition of Mercury Interactive.
