T-Mobile will be bringing out its second Android-powered smartphone in August, and the myTouch 3G will have a strong emphasis on personalization.

The handset is based on the touchscreen HTC Magic, but the fourth-largest U.S. carrier has added multiple hardware and software changes. The company will be releasing multiple shell cases with different designs, and at least 17 accessories for the device that range from a USB cable to a snap-on battery extender.

On the software side, the carrier has added a Microsoft Exchange client so users can receive corporate e-mail and calendars on the go. The Sherpa application will also come preloaded, and this location-based program customizes itself to the user's preferences and recommends nearby shops, restaurants, and other locations.

Additionally, customers will get an App Pack, which gives myTouch users recommendations about other programs in the Android Market.

The handset has a capacitive touch screen, and is powered by Android 1.5 which includes an onscreen keyboard and video-recording capabilities. The smartphone also comes with integrated Wi-Fi, EDGE, and it can use T-Mobile's growing 3G network for surfing the Web on-the-go. The myTouch also has Bluetooth, and GPS, and will have deep integration with Google's Web services like Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Maps, and YouTube.

The myTouch 3G is available for preorder now, and it will be available in T-Mobile retail stores August for $199 with a new two-year contract. The pricing puts the device in direct competition with AT&T's iPhone 3GS, although consumers can purchase an iPhone 3G for about half the price.
