Yahoo and Verizon have announced that they have extended a joint agreement for a co-branded Web portal, which would appear as a homepage for new Verizon FIOS and high-speed Internet customers.

The multi-year agreement states that a customizable Verizon-Yahoo Web portal would be offered as the preferred starting point for all of Verizon's new broadband Internet customers. The companies did not disclose financial details or the length of the agreement.

Those who choose the Web portal will get Yahoo Search, co-branded e-mail, instant messaging, and a customizable personal assistant to manage e-mail, horoscopes, weather predictions, and top news picks. The companies will share revenue generated by search and display ads, as well as other e-commerce revenue.

The agreement marks an extension of a deal dating back to 2005. It is not exclusive. In fact, Verizon customers can choose other portals, including Time Warner's AOL, Microsoft's MSN, and Verizon's own Web portal.

Although AT&T, Vodafone, and T-Mobile partner with Yahoo for mobile services, including search and advertising in the United States and Europe, the Verizon deal announced Wednesday does not apply to mobile subscribers. The Wall Street Journal reported earlier this month that Verizon Wireless is working on a deal with Google to provide search and advertising to its mobile subscribers.

That report indicated that Google and Verizon Wireless have yet to agree on terms regarding Google's ability to save subscribers' mobile search data. It also indicated that Google search could appear on Verizon's Web portal.

Yahoo stock fell 0.11% Wednesday to $18.73.
