Connect Computing on Monday announced a partnership with Mandrakesoft to offer Linux server software for small businesses. Mandrakelinux Dedicated File Server, a Samba file server, and Mandrakelinux Dedicated Email Gateway, a Postfix e-mail gateway, are designed to be affordable and easy to migrate from Windows.

The Mandrakelinux Dedicated File Server includes Samba 3, which is compatible with all Microsoft Windows networks and the CUPS printing system to manage printers. The Mandrakelinux Dedicated Email Gateway comes bundled with SpamAssassin and anti-virus software. Both distributions are available now for just under $1,000, including a two-year support and upgrade package.

"We believe that Linux allows small businesses to use technology without having to buy expensive and proprietary software. Mandrakesoft has been putting together good distributions, manuals, and support packages for some time, but these two new offerings are really geared for the small and medium business," Roy Hoobler, president of Connect Computing, said in a statement.
