Microsoft has said in the past that enterprise applications could become a $10 billion business for the vendor. The $20 billion-plus customer-relationship-management market could prove fertile ground for that growth, and Monday Microsoft unveiled its first upgrade to the CRM platform it launched in January.

Microsoft CRM 1.2 enhances usability and performance, according to the vendor. It includes additional data-evaluation capabilities, and further support for lead tracking and sales-territory effectiveness. Improvements have also been made to the user interface to increase flexibility and to simplify the setup and installation of the program, which is now available in nine languages.

The software will be generally available worldwide in the first quarter.
