Within the next 24 hours, Mozilla will be pushing out its first ever beta release of an upcoming security update.

Mozilla is beginning to treat its security and stability updates like it does its major version releases, issuing beta releases to its tester community, according to an advisory.

"To ensure continued improvement in the quality of Firefox 2, we are now applying the same program to our security and stability release process for Firefox 2," said Basil Hashem, senior director of product management, in the advisory. "Starting within the next 24 hours, everyone who participated in the beta process will be offered a pre-release version of the next security and stability update."

The security and stability update, which is Firefox 2.0.0.3, will begin being pushed out to beta testers by Saturday. Mozilla did not specify how soon the official release will roll out to all the users, but did say it would be "shortly after" testing is completed.

The beta of the update will be pushed out to users who downloaded the beta version of Firefox 2.0. They are automatically put into the beta community testing group, so will receive future betas. To be exclude yourself from the beta program, Mozilla recommends users download and install the latest stable production release of Firefox.
