Nokia is beefing up the messaging capabilities of its Symbian S60 devices by taking Nokia Messaging out of beta.

The cell phone manufacturing company said the free push e-mail application makes it simple for users to get their messages on the go. The service was announced earlier this month alongside the touch-screen N97 smartphone.

"With Nokia Messaging, our customers can simply and affordably gain mobile access to the world's most popular e-mail and IM accounts," senior VP Tom Furlong said in a statement. "We are making mobile messaging an affordable experience for everyone, not just for those with specialized phones designed for messaging, but for everyone with a Nokia device."

The messaging app offers push messages from up to 10 accounts from Web-based providers like Gmail, Yahoo Mail, AOL Mail, and Windows Live Hotmail, and various ISP-based accounts. Nokia said once the app is installed, setting up an account will only require users to enter the e-mail addresses and passwords.

Nokia Messaging also has support for subfolders on IMAP e-mail accounts, as well as support for Google Apps hosted e-mail. The latest version also features enhanced in-box navigation, and sent e-mails are now synced with your Webmail's sent folder.

The messaging app was greatly aided by the September acquisition of OZ Communications, which specialized in commercial mobile messaging. Users can also get their instant messages pushed to handsets from nearly all the major IM clients.

The app is available for free right now and can be downloaded from email.nokia.com. It's compatible with nearly every S60 device, including the E71, N95, and N96.
