Oracle on Friday introduced a free hosted verification service for developers and independent software vendors, who can use the Oracle Portal Verification Service to test the interoperability of their Web-based content and applications.

At the Portal Verification Service, which can be accessed from the Portal Center on the Oracle Technology Network, company portal developers and software vendors can test their content and applications against the latest Java and Web services standards, Oracle said, including the draft spec for Oasis' Web Services for Remote Portals and when its finally adopted by the Java Community Process, the Java Specification Request 168 standard.

Oracle is using the service to promote its own Oracle 9i Application Server and other development tools for "portlets," as portal sub-components are called.
