Many companies are showing a growing interest in measuring and analyzing application performance. ProactiveNet Inc. next week will introduce ProactiveNet 5.1, which offers enhanced tools for application-performance measurement, analysis, and visualization, along with integration with other tools and a database, deeper root-cause analysis and correlation, and real-time gauges.

The software has three adapters. One works with SQL Server for performance and business data, another works with Topaz from Mercury Interactive Corp., and the third works with IBM WebSphere's MQ monitor. Mercury is a direct competitor of ProactiveNet. A new feature called Change Tracking adds change-control capabilities to the correlation and root-cause analysis portion of 5.1. The goal is to provide IT managers with enhanced visualization thanks to real-time gauges on the management dashboard, expanded graphical types, and enhanced customization.

ProactiveNet 5.1 is available next week, starting at $25,000 and going up from there based on the number and type of entities monitored.

ProactiveNet is in the middle of a highly competitive pack of vendors, but the new software helps it move up a bit, one analyst says. "It brings more settings so customers can make changes easier, more real-time graphics, and the ability to pull more external information," says Corey Ferengol at Meta Group. "Before, they focused on themselves and didn't connect to any other tools."
