IBM and Red Hat Inc. on Thursday said they would work together in helping independent software vendors get application certification on Red Hat's Linux server software running on IBM hardware and middleware.

As part of the agreement, Red Hat would provide technology and support services, and ISVs would get access to IBM technology centers, which provide a range of services that include porting and enablement of software either on site or remotely.

The self-certification process for ISVs is to assure software makers and their customers that the products will perform as expected.

IBM's Innovation Centers for Business Partners is part of a $1 billion global initiative to support business partners with education, migration and testing services, according to IBM.
