Macromedia said Tuesday that Juha Christensen has been named president of its mobile and devices business unit. Christensen most recently served as VP of Microsoft's mobile devices division. Before that, he was a co-founder of Symbian, which developed the Symbian operating platform for smart phones and other mobile devices.

At Macromedia, Christensen will be in charge of the division that develops applications such as Flash for mobile devices. Flash recently scored some significant wins by being included in Sony Clie handhelds and smart phones offered by Japanese wireless carrier NTT DoCoMo.

"I joined the company because Macromedia is uniquely positioned to deliver the experience layer that will light up the next generation of mobile devices," Christensen said in a statement.

At Microsoft, Christensen was responsible for bringing the Pocket PC and Smartphone platforms to market, as well as that company's Mobile Information Server.
