Oracle chief marketing officer Mark Jarvis and executive VP George Roberts are leaving the company, a spokeswoman confirmed. The departures were revealed internally Wednesday in an E-mail message from CEO Larry Ellison. Oracle has also hired Joseph "Keith" Kellogg, a former lieutenant general with the U.S. Army, as a senior VP in its office of homeland security systems.

Jarvis, a senior VP who reported Ellison, had risen through the ranks since joining Oracle in 1989 as a developer in its office in Holland. As chief marketing officer, Jarvis often took the stage at public events to demonstrate products and convey the company's strategy. His responsibilities will be assumed by Charles Phillips, the former Morgan Stanley software analyst who joined Oracle as an executive VP in May. Phillips is also responsible for corporate strategy, business development, partnerships, and customer-facing activities.

Roberts, a 13-year Oracle veteran, oversaw Oracle's North American sales until a reorganization last fall that combined sales and consulting under Keith Block, executive VP of North America.

Kellogg will report to Kevin Fitzgerald, the head of Oracle's government-sector sales organization.
