Websense unveiled software Tuesday designed to protect companies from outside attackers as well as a major internal threat -- their own employees.

The Websense Content Protection Suite is aimed at keeping a company's critical data in-house, and out of the way of accidental or malicious disclosure, according to the company. A key feature of the new software is the Websense Content Auditor, which is designed to be aware of sensitive data in a network and identify who's using it and how it's being used.

The software also is said to reveal gaps in a company's information security network and business policies based on government regulations, industry standards, and corporate governance guidelines. The software's Content Enforcer feature goes a step further, implementing compliance and risk management policies.

"Banking is a highly regulated industry, and as a credit union, we have millions of pieces of confidential data that cannot, under any circumstances, leave this organization's network," said Glen Chrzas, VP of technology at Altura Credit Union, in a statement. "Whether it is from the accidental exposure of member information or the malicious theft of confidential records, the consequences of a data breach are too costly to ignore."

The software is set to monitor and restrict outbound and inbound data flow from desktops, laptops, and hand-held devices. It's based on technology acquired from PortAuthority Technologies in January.

The suite is slated to be available Thursday, Feb. 8. Pricing information wasn't provided.
