Yahoo and CBS Radio have joined forces to provide online music.

CBS Radio will power Yahoo Music's LAUNCHcast Radio, which will deliver music, news, talk shows, and sports beginning early next year. Yahoo said that it would make LAUNCHcast available to Firefox, Mac, and Safari users.

The agreement will give CBS Radio responsibility for sales through its sales force and TargetSpot. It will also allow a new CBS Radio player to be integrated on Yahoo Music, News, and Sports. Stations will include: WFAN (New York), KNX-AM (Los Angeles) and WPHT-AM (Philadelphia), respectively.

Yahoo said the agreement expands its media portfolio to include one of the largest providers of radio on the Internet.

Jimmy Pitaro, VP of Yahoo Sports and Entertainment, said the deal will create the Internet radio's "most comprehensive and diverse collection of music, news, and sports programming."

David Goodman, president of Digital Media and Integrated Marketing for CBS Radio, said that the agreement with Yahoo "reinforces our company's position as the number one Internet radio company in the world." He said it would also ensure that advertisers could reach the largest audience possible.

CBS Radio has about 150 stations covering news, sports, talk, rock, oldies, country, contemporary, and urban formats through a combination of on-air, online, and new media platforms in 50 U.S. markets. Its interactive programming takes advantage of streaming, HD radio, podcasts, and mobile messages.

Yahoo Music features Internet radio, music video, top 100 lists, artist information, and music news. Songs are available for download and through streaming. Its on-demand offerings are managed by Rhapsody.
